Does the MMR vaccine cause autism? +

The MMR Vaccine: Facts, Safety, & Protection

Your child’s safety is our highest priority. We understand that making health decisions can feel overwhelming due to conflicting information online. We want to provide you with clear, scientifically backed facts regarding the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine so you can feel completely confident in your child’s care.

The Myth vs. The Reality

Does the MMR vaccine cause autism? Absolutely not.

In 1998, a British doctor named Andrew Wakefield published a small paper in The Lancet suggesting a potential link between the MMR vaccine and autism based on just 12 children. The media amplified this claim, leading to widespread public panic.

Over the next decade, researchers conducted massive, global studies involving millions of children. None of these studies found any link between the MMR vaccine and autism.¹ ²

A Retracted Study & Fraud

Investigations uncovered deep ethical violations and scientific fraud behind the 1998 paper:³

  • Falsified Data: The medical records of the 12 children were altered to falsely create a link that did not exist.
  • Hidden Financial Motives: The author received hidden payments from lawyers building a lawsuit against vaccine manufacturers.
  • Competing Patents: The author had filed a patent for his own alternative measles vaccine, standing to profit if parents abandoned the standard MMR shot.

The Lancet fully retracted the paper in 2010, and the author was stripped of his medical license.⁴

The Real Danger: Measles

Measles is not a simple childhood rash; it is one of the most highly contagious viruses on the planet. It can lead to severe complications, including pneumonia, brain swelling, deafness, and can be fatal. The MMR vaccine is incredibly effective and has saved millions of lives worldwide. Decades of rigorous safety monitoring have consistently proven that the MMR vaccine is safe, effective, and crucial for your child’s health.

We are here to talk: If you have any questions or lingering concerns, please do not hesitate to ask during your next appointment.
